What to Expect on Your First Visit

When you arrive at the clinic please ring the buzzer, so we can ‘buzz you in’ to the waiting room.As there is no receptionist, so please take a seat. We will be with you as soon as we have finished with the previous patient.

For new patients there is a contact details sheet to complete before your appointment begins.First appointments last approximately 1 hour. Please feel free to bring a friend or relative with you.

Case History
Patients are collected from the waiting room downstairs and taken
to the treatment room, where we discuss in detail the nature of the
injury/problem. At this point you will be asked detailed questions about your general health, accidents and trauma that you have suffered In the past, your past medical history including illness and operations and any other relevant areas of health such as emotional stresses you are suffering or have suffered from in the past. You are encouraged to ask questions at any point during this time and throughout any further sessions you have with the Osteopath.

Physical Examination
For this you are asked to undress to your underwear (loose shorts is fine) for the osteopath to be fully able to observe your posture, spine and joint movements. During this the Osteopath will gently put their hands on your body to assess the muscles. You will then be asked to lie down on the table for further examination.

Treatment
At this point you will be given an explanation about what the Osteopath believes the problem is and how they will treat your specific symptoms. Our first aim is to give immediate relief from pain. We also want to identify the underlying causes to reduce the likelihood of re-injury and begin the rehabilitation including advice on habits and lifestyle.

What happens next?
Subsequent appointments last for approximately half an hour. Progress is
reviewed from previous treatment and treatment is continued.
Please note:

  • It is not uncommon to experience some soreness 24-48 hours after treatment, this is because we have been working on sore muscles to release them.
  • If after treatment you have any concerns we encourage patients to ring us straightaway to discuss them, rather than worry if everything is ok.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 16 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN THROUGHOUT THEIR TREATMENT.
